Discover the best travel destinations in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania is a great place to visit for any traveler, no matter what you're looking for. The state has so much to offer travelers—from museums and historical sites to theme parks, waterparks and fun attractions of all varieties. Pennsylvania also boasts some of the most beautiful countryside in the United States, as well as hundreds of miles of hiking trails that are perfect for those who love nature.

Here are just some of the best places to visit in Pennsylvania:

Explore gorgeous gardens and art at Longwood Gardens.

Longwood Gardens is an estate garden located in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, United States. It was created from 1901 through 1959 by philanthropist Pierre S. du Pont and his wife Eliza Lardé du Pont, as a place for them to study horticulture, botany and agriculture. The gardens contain more than one hundred buildings and structures on 725 acres (2.9 km2). Since opening to the public in 1933, Longwood Gardens has become one of the most well-known horticultural display gardens in the world.[1]

Longwood's Flower Clock is one of its most recognizable features; it won an award from Garden Design magazine as the "World's Most Beautiful Flower Clock" in 2006.[2]

Visit the Amish country in Lancaster.

If you've ever wanted to see what life is like for a religious group of people who live in Pennsylvania, then Amish country is the place to go. Lancaster County is home to over 70,000 Amish and Mennonite residents who have preserved their heritage despite being surrounded by the hustle and bustle of modern life.

There are plenty of things to do while visiting this area:

  • Go on an Amish Farm Tour: You can learn about how these families operate their farms without modern conveniences such as electricity or cars. You'll also learn about their culture and daily lives through stories at each farm site.

  • Visit one of many museums: There are several museums that focus on different aspects of Amish culture such as farming practices, quilts made by hand using traditional methods (and no sewing machines!), food preservation techniques used over the years before refrigeration was available...the list goes on!

  • Try some delicious treats made from scratch: Although many baked goods sold at bakeries may not be homemade anymore due to production demands--this doesn't mean you can't try them! Many homes still make jam & jelly out of fruit grown right outside their window so stop by one during your stay...you won't regret it!

Experience a whole different kind of capital at Harrisburg.

Harrisburg is the state capital of Pennsylvania. It's also home to many other cities and towns, including Mechanicsburg and Carlisle. The city has a rich history, as well as art and culture that you won't find anywhere else in the state. Harrisburg has museums dedicated to its history—including a Holocaust Memorial Museum—as well as some great galleries for visiting art lovers. There are also plenty of restaurants in Harrisburg if you're hungry after exploring all day long!

Get away from civilization in Altoona.

Want to completely escape from civilization? Altoona is the place for you! It’s a city in central Pennsylvania that’s known for its railroad history. This town is home to the Railroaders Memorial Museum, which honors those who have worked in the railroad industry.

If you’re looking for some other things to do while visiting Altoona, check out:

  • The Horseshoe Curve National Historic Landmark. This beautiful curve was built by the Pennsylvania Railroad Company over 200 years ago and played an instrumental role in helping trains cross mountains with less effort.

  • The Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum. Located at 5th Avenue Station, this museum exhibits artifacts from railroads past and present as well as offers tours of Horseshoe Curve (see above). You can also dine here!

  • Blair County Convention & Visitors Bureau Visitors Center + Visitor Information Desk (located at 4th Avenue Station). This center will help you plan your trip throughout Blair County including attractions like Horseshoe Curve National Historic Landmark (see above).

Go tubing in Jim Thorpe.

Jim Thorpe is a fun place to tube. Tubes are available for rent, or you can bring your own. The tow path is smooth and wide, making it easy to navigate even with a large group of people. You'll have plenty of time to see the entire town as you relax on your tube while being pulled by watercrafts. The scenery along the way includes landmarks like the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, which offers train rides through the valley's narrow gorge; Mauch Chunk Lake Park, which features boating and camping; and Coal Town Roadside Park, featuring displays of early mining equipment.

Pick up a tube at one of several locations throughout Jim Thorpe (such as Lazy Dayz Water Sports), or bring your own if you prefer! Your adventure will begin at Mauch Chunk Lake Park where there is ample parking available for vehicles with trailers or buses that wish to park overnight for their trip down river (no other campers allowed). Once everyone has arrived in Mauch Chunk Lake Park on Saturday morning we will get started with some orienteering skills practice activities before hitting our target landing spot where we can start using our maps & compasses again: Coal Town Roadside Park!

Immerse yourself in history in Gettysburg.

One of the best ways to immerse yourself in history is by visiting Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Located in the northeast part of the state on the main road between Baltimore and Washington, DC, it was a key stop on both Confederate and Union supply lines during the Civil War. Indeed, one of its most important battles took place here: The Battle of Gettysburg—one of the bloodiest battles ever fought in American history—was fought at this location in 1863.

The resulting National Military Park preserves more than 1,600 acres (650 hectares) where over 150 monuments commemorate those who fought for freedom during this period. Don't miss your chance to visit!

Pennsylvania has many unique places to visit!

Pennsylvania is a great place to visit for the holidays. In addition to the many historical sites, Pennsylvania has some of the most beautiful natural landscapes in America. You can watch snow fall from your cabin window or go hiking through a state park. There are plenty of options for everyone in your family!

Conclusion

We hope that you enjoy your visit to Pennsylvania!
