Introduction

One of the best ways to experience North Carolina is by exploring its cities and small towns. From Charlotte to Asheville and beyond, this state has a lot to offer. Here are some of our favorite places in North Carolina that you'll want to visit on your next trip:

Asheville

Asheville is the largest city in Western North Carolina and home of more than a hundred breweries and distilleries throughout the area.

Asheville is known for its arts, music and food scene. Not only does it have an active nightlife with plenty of live music venues; but it also has several festivals throughout the year such as The Brewgrass Festival, Folk Roots Fest, and Asheville Fringe Festival that highlight local talent.

Charlotte

Charlotte is the largest city in North Carolina, and it's also the most populous city in the Carolinas. The Queen City is known for being a major financial center with its strong banking presence and concentration of corporate headquarters. It houses several large hospitals, including Carolinas Medical Center—the largest medical center in the region.

The Charlotte Motor Speedway hosts NASCAR races throughout the year, including Coca-Cola 600 (May), NASCAR All-Star Race (May), Bank of America 500 (October), and Ford EcoBoost 400 (November). If you're interested in football—or even just watching some guys throw around a ball—you can check out games at Bank of America Stadium which is home to both University of North Carolina Charlotte's 49ers football team as well as NFL team Carolina Panthers

Wilmington

A short drive from the beach, Wilmington is a bustling city with plenty to do and see. The Port of Wilmington is the busiest port on the East Coast, so if you're into boats or working in shipping industries, this may be your dream job. But even if that isn't your speed, there are plenty of other things to keep you busy in this historic city. There are museums galore as well as numerous shops and restaurants throughout downtown. If you want some quiet time away from the hustle and bustle of downtown though, venture out to Wrightsville Beach or Kure Beach—just make sure not to get stuck behind someone driving too slow!

Durham

Durham is a great place for foodies, with some of the best restaurants in North Carolina. And there's no shortage of nightlife options, including the Durham Bulls and their baseball stadium-turned-event center, as well as local pubs like Motorco Music Hall and The Pinhook.

Durham also has a thriving arts scene, from museums to galleries to live performances. Among other things, you can catch live music at Motorco Music Hall or hear stories about Duke University's history through exhibits at Duke University Museum of Art (DUMoA).

Boone

  • Location: Boone is located in western North Carolina and is about an hour's drive from the Blue Ridge Parkway. It's a great starting point for those looking to explore the mountain area or spend some time on the trail.

  • Area attractions: The Appalachian Trail crosses through Boone, so you can hike it right in town. There are also plenty of other outdoor activities available nearby such as whitewater rafting, horseback riding, zip lining and more.

  • Things to do: Visit Angel Falls State Park; they have cabins available that make it easy to stay overnight if you're looking to get away from it all!

  • Sights to see: In addition to hiking trails and riverside views (if you go during spring), there are also lots of shops selling locally made crafts and gifts.

  • Food & drink: Make sure you try local brews like Appalachian Brewing Company's Copperline Amber Ale!

Takeaway:

If you're looking for a single, simple takeaway from this article, it's this: North Carolina is an amazing state that values its history and the people who make it. Its past is full of great stories and the present has many stories yet to be written.

Conclusion

North Carolina is a beautiful state filled with amazing people, amazing food, and amazing history. We hope this blog post has given you some ideas on where to visit next time you’re in the area.
