Introduction

New Mexico is a great place to visit. It has a vibrant culture, rich history, and scenic landscapes. Here are some of my favorite places in New Mexico:

Drive the Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway

This route called the "Enchanted Circle" is a scenic drive that highlights many of New Mexico's beautiful landscapes. The byway passes through the Pecos National Historical Park, Chaco Canyon and Roswell UFO Museum. Plan to spend at least one day driving this route!

Start your journey in Santa Fe, home to numerous art galleries, museums and restaurants. The city is also known for its rich Spanish heritage with architecture dating back hundreds of years. You can take advantage of all that Santa Fe has to offer by renting a car from Alamo Rent A Car (www.alamo .com/us/rentacar) or Hertz Rent A Car (www .hertz .com).

From Santa Fe head north on Highway 84 towards Mora where you will find several restaurants including La Posada Restaurant & Cantina - featuring Mexican food along with live music every evening! Once you've enjoyed lunch keep heading north towards Española where you'll pass through rich farmland before entering into the Jemez Mountains region near Taos Ski Valley Resort & Spa - home base for some of North America's best ski resorts like Angel Fire Resort and Pueblo Mountain Ranch Ski Area which offer great hiking trails during summer months when it's too hot outside but still sunny enough so wear sunscreen! From there continue onto Madrid then up past Chimayo where you'll find plenty more places to eat like Café Chimayo - serving traditional breakfast burritos among other dishes since 1970s! Grab an authentic Mexican meal before heading into Rio Rancho which offers plenty more dining options including Los Compadres Bar + Grill - serving up burgers & tacos along with daily specials including Taco Tuesdays (when tacos cost only $2)! Make sure not miss out on Albuquerque either because there are plenty more places

Explore Carlsbad Caverns National Park

Carlsbad Caverns National Park is a must-visit spot for any New Mexico trip. The caverns are the fifth longest in the world, and they're home to more than 300 species of animals and plants. The park is also home to the world's largest bat colony—an estimated 1 million Mexican free-tailed bats spend their summers at Carlsbad Caverns National Park!

Whether you come with family or friends, there are many ways you can explore this amazing natural wonder. You can choose from hiking trails that range from easy strolls to challenging scrambles; tour guides will take visitors through parts of the cave not open to casual hikers; or camp out under the stars at one of three campgrounds within Carlsbad Caverns National Park (there's even an RV area).

Tour the White Sands National Monument

White Sands National Monument is a unique desert environment that you won't find anywhere else. It's one of the largest gypsum dune fields in the world and home to the endangered white sand dune tiger beetle. There are several hiking trails and plenty of opportunities to camp here, too.

Take a Salt River raft trip

Salt River rafting is more than just a cool way to get out and enjoy nature. It's also an incredible team-building experience! While you're riding down the river, you and your crew will be working together to steer your raft safely through rapids, pull yourselves out of waterfalls, and generally have fun under pressure.

A trip on the Salt River is about 4 hours long, so it's best if you bring along snacks that won't spoil in the heat (or get wet from splashings). You can buy food at the trip office before boarding your boat if you'd like—just make sure it doesn't contain nuts or other allergens! The guides are happy to give advice on what types of food are most suitable for this type of adventure. And don't forget sunscreen! Make sure everyone wears plenty so they don't burn their faces off when they jump into the water later on in our day trip around New Mexico.

You'll see lots of wildlife during this activity: deer scampering through fields near Santa Fe; hawks circling overhead as we cruise downriver; even bighorn sheep occasionally pop up from behind rocks near Albuquerque! We'll also be passing through several caves (if weather permits) where stalactites hang from ceilings like icicles made from sandstone.

Hike the Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument

Take a hike through Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument, one of the most picturesque places in New Mexico. Hike 9 miles round trip, and expect it to take 7 hours. The hike is rated as moderate difficulty, so you'll want to be in pretty good shape if you're going to attempt this one! It's open year round.

Hit the slopes at Angel Fire Resort

Angel Fire Resort is a ski resort in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of New Mexico. The resort is open from December to April with a vertical drop of 2,600 feet and offers skiing and snowboarding on terrain that's suited to beginners, intermediates, and experts alike.

For those looking for some excitement off the slopes, Angel Fire has plenty of additional activities such as zip lines, horseback riding tours or snowmobiling.

Explore Roswell's UFO museums and sites

Roswell is a small city in southeastern New Mexico that's known as the UFO capital of the world. It's also home to many museums and sites related to UFOs, including the International UFO Museum & Research Center and Roswell Museum & Art Center. If you're interested in learning more about UFOs, check out these places for yourself!

Visit Chimayó's Santuario de Chimayó

The Santuario is a Catholic church, but it’s also so much more. The Santuario is a pilgrimage site, offering healing and miracles to those who come here seeking them. If you are looking for something that will truly change your life and make you feel whole again after having suffered loss or hardship, then this is the place for you!

In addition to providing its faithful with spiritual guidance and comfort as they seek answers about their lives’ troubles, the Santuario de Chimayó also offers many other opportunities to learn about New Mexico's rich cultural heritage while exploring this beautiful state.

Go to the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is the largest balloon festival in the world. Held every year in October, it's a family-friendly event with concerts, food vendors and fireworks.

This festival also draws visitors from all over the world to see hot air balloons launch and soar into the New Mexico sky. Many people who visit Albuquerque make time to watch this event; if you're traveling with kids they'll be excited to see so many colorful balloons up close.

Make your way to Mile Marker 420, Western New Mexico

Miles from nowhere and miles from Roswell, this is a roadside attraction that will take you back in time. It's located 1 mile east of the intersection of Highway 70 and US 285 on Highway 70 in San Jon, New Mexico. No seriously! Make plans to visit Mile Marker 420 where there are wild animals, a small petting zoo and more than enough things for your kids (and you) to do!

There is a lot to do in New Mexico.

New Mexico is an amazing state to visit. There are so many different places to go and things to do, you could spend a whole month just exploring the state! Here are some of the most popular attractions in New Mexico:

  • Carlsbad Caverns National Park - This park has majestic limestone formations that have been carved by wind and water over thousands of years. The park also has a large bat colony, which makes it unique among national parks.

  • White Sands National Monument - This monument boasts unusually bright white sand dunes that can reach up to 10 feet tall! You'll find these dunes located on the western edge of Alamogordo, New Mexico. The sand from this monument came from volcanic ash deposits millions of years ago when volcanoes were active in this region (which is why there aren't any volcanoes left).

Conclusion

New Mexico is an amazing place to visit. There are so many things to do, from hiking in the mountains or taking a river raft trip down one of its many rivers, to exploring ancient caves and seeing some of the world's best sunsets. You'll have a hard time deciding which activity is your favorite!
