Introduction
It's no surprise that the Hawaiian Islands are a popular vacation destination. With warm weather, beautiful beaches and incredible scenery, it's easy to see why people flock here for some much-needed relaxation time. The islands also offer plenty of activities beyond simply laying on a beach towel or lounging in your hotel room. In fact, there are tons of things you can do while visiting Hawaii! So what should you do while on Oahu? How about Maui? Or even Kauai or the Big Island? Let's take a look at some itineraries for your trip - maybe one will inspire you to go somewhere else!
Oahu
Waikiki Beach is a must-see on any Hawaiian itinerary. The legendary stretch of sand has been a popular destination for tourists and locals alike since the 1930s and includes everything from shops (including the world-famous Hotel Waikiki), restaurants and cafes, to surfers.
Diamond Head is one of Honolulu’s most recognizable landmarks. It’s a hike up (or down) to see it in person, but it’s worth it for the stunning views!
Aloha Tower was built in 1926 to welcome ships into Honolulu Harbor; today you can visit the tower and enjoy lunch or dinner at Aloha Tower Marketplace - which features over 40 shops including Macy's, Banana Republic, Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH™ and more! Or take in some shows at nearby theaters like International Market Place Theatre or Ward Theatre Company Stage II!
Maui
Maui is the second-largest of the Hawaiian Islands, and is known for its beaches and waterfalls. Maui is also a popular destination for tourists, and is the second-most visited island in Hawaii (behind Oahu).
Kauai
Kauai is the oldest of the five main Hawaiian islands. The island's lush tropical forests and waterfalls make it a popular tourist destination, but Kauai is also known for its endangered species such as monk seals, nene geese, humpback whales and green sea turtles. Kauai has some of Hawaii's most beautiful beaches with white sand that stretches out as far as you can see.
Big Island
The Big Island of Hawai'i is the newest island in the chain, and also the largest. It has a unique topography, with two active volcanoes (Mauna Kea and Kilauea), but also several dormant ones. The volcanic activity gave birth to much of the land, but it's now responsible for islands' distinct lava rock beaches.
Volcanoes National Park is a must-see for any visitor to Kaua'i. Here you'll find Mauna Loa and Kilauea, both active volcanoes that have been erupting since 1983! With over 13 million acres of protected land on some 30 different islands, including Maui and Oahu (you may have heard about them), Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is an exceptional place for hiking and exploring nature at its finest.
Mauna Kea offers spectacular views from its summit above 14000 ft elevation that can only be accessed with 4WD vehicles or snowmobiles equipped with chains during winter months when temperatures drop below freezing point - we recommend visiting here during springtime when daytime temperatures are milder.
Hawaii is great!
Hawaii is great! I love it.
Hawaii is the best place to go on vacation, and I think Hawaii should be the first place you visit when you come to the US. It's so beautiful there with all those palm trees and beaches. You can even swim with dolphins!
